Next Generation Ethernet Module for the Company's
Flagship Traverse® Platform Ensures Carrier-Class Resiliency
for Triple Play and Ethernet Service Delivery ApplicationsPetaluma, CA, June 7th, 2005 -
Turin Networks,
a leading developer and supplier of multiservice transport switching
platforms for telecommunications carriers worldwide, today announced
the release of the first in a line of Next Generation Ethernet
(NGE) Modules for the company's Traverse® Multiservice
Transport Switch. With the addition of the NGE modules, the
Traverse platform becomes the first product in its class to
support full facility and equipment protection for Ethernet,
allowing service providers to deliver business class Ethernet
services and transport IP-Video with unmatched resiliency.
"High availability is a business imperative for service providers,
and the lack of protection mechanisms equivalent to those supported
with TDM has been an impediment to the success of Carrier Ethernet"
said Steve West, vice president of systems architecture for
Turin Networks. "Turin's NGE modules break through this barrier
by extending SONET/SDH's resiliency capabilities to Ethernet."
The NGE modules deliver full facility and equipment protection
switching capabilities, enabling recovery both from network-level
failures - such as cable cuts - as well as from potential hardware
failures, in less than 50 milliseconds. Prior to Turin supporting
this capability with the NGE modules, service providers delivering
Ethernet over SONET/SDH have only been able to offer services
in an un-protected mode.
In addition to comprehensive protection for packet services,
the Traverse NGE modules deliver the industry's definitive Ethernet
over SONET/SDH aggregation and transport solution for service
providers. The Traverse NGE modules provide a full set of Ethernet
over SONET/SDH (EoS) features that leverage ITU-T standards
to transport Ethernet services with greater than 95% bandwidth
utilization, including high-order and low-order VCAT, GFP, and
LCAS. In addition, the NGE supports advanced Ethernet L2 switching
and traffic management features such as powerful VLAN, and VLAN
stacking, as well as prioritization and flow control mechanisms
to support differentiated classes of service and carrier-class
SLAs.
Turin Networks is showcasing the NGE modules at SUPERCOMM 2005
in booth #64070. About Turin Networks
