| Overview |
Turin's Traverse Family of Multiservice Transport Switches delivers new levels of versatility, reliability, and performance to metro service edge networks by enabling the delivery of any mix of MEF-compliant Ethernet over fiber (on-net), Ethernet over copper/PDH (off-net), and traditional TDM services from a single shelf. The NEBS-compliant, carrier-grade Traverse platform integrates carrier Ethernet and TDM aggregation, switching and transport with industry-leading interface flexibility and scalability. The Traverse platform is a cornerstone of Turin's iConnect™ solution for Carrier Ethernet, which facilitates service providers' migration to a packet-optimized network infrastructure. |
| Versatile, Packet-Optimized Design |
The Traverse platform is a truly global solution that supports ANSI and ETSI/ITU-T network environments, as well as SONET-SDH conversion for international gateway applications. The versatile system can be deployed in linear, ring, and mesh topologies, and offers a wide variety of service interfaces ranging from 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet and DS1/E1 to STM-64/OC-192 or 10GbE. Layer2 Ethernet switching and packet-based QoS mechanisms enable the delivery of Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) compliant E-Line (point-to-point) and E-LAN services that meet rigorous Ethernet service level agreements (SLAs).
The Traverse platform's distributed switching architecture reduces costs and increases time to market for new services by supporting the "pay as you grow" integration of Ethernet switching and transport, TDM multiplexing, and DCS (Digital Cross-Connect System) functionality simply by adding specific modules. Providing scalability of up to 100 Gbps per system, the Traverse platform is optimized for deployments in service hubs, central offices, cable headends, colocation facilities and other high-capacity sites.
The Traverse product family consists of three shelves: the twenty-slot Traverse 2000, the sixteen-slot Traverse 1600 and the six-slot Traverse 600. The differently sized platforms share a common set of interface and switching modules - simplifying ordering and sparing - while providing suitability for a range of applications. |
